A seraphic supplication was unheard of,
It was disastrous to the natural order of things,
For a seraphim to squander their position and power?
To lower themselves down to the point of bargain!
It was as scandalous as a colorful petticoat worn over a dress!
One could feel the tickles of alarm throughout the cohort, as they tried and failed to process this mystery,
Weren’t they to live their lives as their creator dictated?
Weren’t they to remain neutral in everything, even though it was clear whose side they were on?
Yet here was one of them, head bent at the polished altar, begging to be a mortal,
They stood around him their flowing ecru gowns pooling at their feet, consumed in what they thought was just dramatic art,
Then they heard it,
a voice that felt like the caress of an evening breeze on bare skin,
“As you wish, my son”
