This week’s photo prompt is provided by Elaine Farrington Johnson. Thank yoiu Elaine!

Wendy tugged at her brother’s hand. “Don’t start honey, I let you carry your sign now hush!”, came the strained reply. Wendy looked at her brothers face and noticed he wouldn’t look her in the eye. He still thought her a naive little girl. She was small for her age but she wasn’t stupid and definitely not deaf. She heard what people said about their family, she saw the looks they got at the market. It had been two weeks since she heard the commotion down stairs when the people from their church took daddy and uncle Andy away. Two weeks since her life took a permanent drive down misery lane.

“Those are the poor children we saved, at least now they will grow up normal”, someone whispered and she pretended not to hear. “I must get them out of that camp!” she thought bitterly holding her sign higher. Even her little mind knew that unlike human beings, God doesn’t try to fix what is not broken.

  1. God is the one Who will truly free them. I grew up with an abusive father, but didn’t realize his behavior was different than other dads. I wonder if the people from the church knew something she didn’t and really did save her.
